Enabling the women to create rotary weeders locally

Last year we imported rotary weeders from India to help the farmers. The farmers found the weeders extremely useful - they helped to solve the problem of back breaking manual labour.

This year we asked the farmers to manufacture these locally; this initiative was managed by the women. The women found the workers, supervised the work and the…

Training the farmers to make organic compost

With the introduction of SRI, we taught the farmers to use organic…

Hello Tamara,

Thanks for your reply. I would like to use some of the pictures of November 2008 showing multiple land use, access and transport routes, flooded fields, pest and weed control, work methods including planting, weeding and harvesting in my power point presentation to raise awareness of farmers to the health and safety issues of their work environment and work methods and the need for improvements to increase output and better protect their health and well-being.

The workshop is at the planning stage and inputs are welcome, particularly presentations on SRI experiences in Africa and Asia. My role will be to demonstrate how innovative production methods can lead to improved productivity and better control of workplace hazards. I am facilitating the workshop on voluntary basis and will travel to Cameroon from Botswana where I am based at my own costs.

Warm regards,

Dr S.G. Gabe
